"Anne reached the main road, for being confronted halfway down the lane with a golden frenzy of wind-stirred buttercups and a glory of wild roses, Anne promptly and liberally garlanded her hat with a heavy wreath of them. Whatever other people might have thought of the result it satisfied Anne, and she tripped gaily down the road, holding her ruddy head with its decoration of pink and yellow very proudly."
Anne Of Green Gables, by Lucy Maud Montgomery
For about two years, I dyed my hair dark. It was a lot of fun, but after awhile I decided to return to my natural hair color. It's been a long process, but it's great to see the true color of my hair again.

Now that so much of my natural hair has grown out, I'm having trouble deciding what color it is. It's not that blonde anymore - although it looks blonde in some light. I might call it light brown. Here, it looks like a light auburn, but in other light it looks ashy. Some people might call it "mousy," but I don't care for that term - it's so dismissive! Maybe I'll just say it's blondette. :-)

In the past few days, some of the darkness in my life has been lifting, and I finally feel that I'm on a path to healing. I can't help but think of spring arriving soon. I don't know what the future holds, but right now I'm enjoying good health and a feeling of peace.

I hope you all are having a peaceful February!

  1. Dirty blonde maybe? These photos are beautiful and I'm glad you're feeling better. We had a lovely warm front here in Charlottesville. Did you have one, too?

    1. Thank you! Dirty blonde was what I was going with - maybe I'll just stick with it. Glad you're enjoying the weather - yesterday was nice and warm for us too.

  3. i have the same problem, finding my true hair color. in some light it's sort of red, but mostly brown. some where in between. whatever it is, i've always been a fan of your hair, the styles and color and such. and these pictures are so nice. i've been feeling the same after last week being troubling. here's to a brighter week, a brighter month.

  4. I love these photos! I would agree with your hair being a dirty blonde colour. In some lights my hair is red, and others bits of it can look kind of golden, it's strange how hair does that. Your bangs look absolutely perfect. I'm glad your beginning to feel better! I always think spring comes with a feeling of renewal, and it's always nice to see the sun trying to peek through.

    1. I guess hair is cool that way. :-)

Thank you! I've been cutting my own bangs since I was 14, but I've just recently figured out how to cut them the way I like.

      Thank goodness spring is coming!

  5. Beautiful pictures and you look so lovely. Your hair is always done so nicely and I think the term 'blondette' is perfect to describe it! So glad to hear that things are looking up and I wish for an early and wonderful springtime for you.

  6. Your natural hair color is really lovely. I would call it golden blonde, but the line between blonde and brown is a pretty fine one. The daisy crown is a sweet touch, a nice bit of summer while it's so cold out.

  7. Your hair looks really beautiful, and dark blonde comes to mind. Off topic, but did you ever read The Boxcar Children series as a child? My younger sister read them and Netflix now has an animated version. I watched it with my boys and it is very sweet. I thought you might like it and wondered if you've read the books, too.

    1. Thank you!

I loved the Boxcar Children, and it's interesting that you should mention it because I just picked up the first book for the first time in years the other day. Have you been reading my mind? :-) I was really astonished at what a easy read it was. I guess I remembered it as a book for middle grades, but I think it's amazing how the author was able to create such a fun story with simple language for beginning readers. Do your boys like the books too? I'll have to check out the cartoon. :-)

    2. I bought the first four books for Valentine's and we are reading a few chapters each night. I thought my 4-year-old might be too young to sit through a chapter book, but he's really enthralled. The author was a teacher who wrote the books to be exciting for children and easy-to-read, too, and they are perfect for my 6-year-old who is beginning to read. I think you will like the movie; it follows the book and is very sweet. :)

  8. My natural hair color is a really similar shade to yours. It's kind of an un-color. Not quite blonde but not brunette. I think yours is particularly pretty though. It doesn't come off as mousy to me! It has plenty of warm tones.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, for some reason I feel like you look a bit like a young Uma Thurman in these pictures. You're gorgeous! The flowers in your hair are so pretty too.

I'm glad things are starting to look up for you!

    1. Lol, thank you so much, Jamie! I love Uma Thurman. People have been telling me I look like her since I was about nine years old.

I love your chosen signature red hair, btw. :-)

      Have a lovely week!

  9. ANNA, YOU ARE INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL! (Here, you do look beautiful, but I really mean you're beautiful inside and out) Those daisies fit your hair so much. I love the combination of your current hair colour with your eye colour. I don't know what colour that is too but it's the colour I always imagine my dream girl would have as her hair (hint hint ;) )

Also, I've been missing out on your blog posts lately (sorry about that) but what happened? I'm glad you're already feeling better/in good health. I hope nothing bad would happen to you again :(

    1. Aw, thank you, Bivi! You're beautiful inside and out too. :-)

I've just been dealing with mental health issues. I put a link to the post where I talked about it above. Fortunately, the antidepressant/anti-anxiety medication I've been taking is starting to make me feel like my old self.

      Have a lovely day! <3

  14. Aww, Anne of Green Gables! I would never have guessed your hair was naturally light. You look beautiful (but of course) and those daisies are making me miss summer so badly! My hair always lightens up a few shades in the summer sun, does yours as well?

    1. Thank you! :-) Your hair is beautiful, Samantha. <3

My hair doesn't really lighten in the summer, but that's probably because I'm always wearing a hat to guard against sunburn. My husband's blond hair gets much lighter, though (he's one of those blue-eyed blonde people who can actually tan)!!

  15. It looks quite blonde to me ;)

My natural hair color is that kind of in-between shade too. The daisies around the bun are so lovely.
