This is the 50th post on this blog. :-)

I had a birthday recently and a good friend gave me this adorable vintage cat pin. I just love it. It has such a sassy expression, and I can almost hear it saying "kiss my fluffy butt!" or something similar. It also reminds me of Jiji, from Kiki's Delivery Service.

Recently, we've had high winds followed by some snow. It didn't cover the ground, but it was the first we've had this winter (aside from the snow we've seen at nearby higher elevations) so it was pretty exciting.

The weekend before last I had the sudden urge to make candles. I love lighting candles around the house on these dark winter days. With my recent trouble, making something - actually doing something creative - was a big deal and it turned out to be pretty therapeutic. I purchased wicks and wax from a craft store and recycled old jars and parts of old candles. I didn't do much research so most of my candles look dreadful, but they work - for the most part - and they were fun to make.

    It DOES look like Jiji now, doesn't it? So adorable! In that case, you're probably Kiki then? ˆ ˆ
    I've never made candles before but it sounds like something we should all do. I think it looks ethereal, to be honest. Was it soy-based or something? I'm not really familiar with the candle-making process...

    Also, I can't believe I just read your very private post. I hope you're doing okay now. And I hope I could be of some help to you. I don't know anyone in my life with anxiety but I know someone who also suffers from mental illness. I've been trying to be a strength and support for her so I hope I could do the same for you. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to ease your pain.

      Haha, maybe - Kiki is so easy to identify with!

      I wanted to use soy wax for the candles, but I ended up with paraffin wax, because soy or beeswax was too expensive.

      Thank you for your kind words, Bivi. It's very kind of you to offer your support to both me and your friend. I'm sure that means a lot to her. it's a journey, but I am doing better than when I wrote the post. The medication I was prescribed has started helping me feel like my old self.

    I love the ruffles on your coat and that pin is adorable. It also reminds me of Boo Boo Kitty from Laverne and Shirley, lol.

      Thank you! Oh, my mom had a tabby cat named Boo Boo when I was little - I'll have to ask her if the name came from Laverne and Shirley.

    Oooh, happy 50th! That's quite a milestone. If you were a TV show, you'd be halfway to syndication.
    Love the cat pin, although it makes me think of an episode Bob's Burgers (which you should watch, if you don't already) where this oddball character does a whole collection of animals from behind, prominently featuring their... you probably get the picture. Very strange and funny. Not to say your brooch is strange! This comment has gone a bit sideways.
    Anyway, I really like your cute, cozy outfit. You look a treat, and you fit in very well with the wintry woods.

    It still feels to me like you only recently made this blog and you're 50 posts in, wow! I love your cosy outfit and floppy hat, you look wonderful. I kind of made a candle in November, melting all the little bits of candles I had left over into one into a little jar. It looks awful, but there's a few different Yankee candles in there so it smells nice at least!

      Using bits of Yankee candles sounds like a good idea. Maybe we should start an ugly candle-maker's club? :-)

    That cat pin is wonderful! Sassy indeed! I'm also in love with your ruffled coat and the colors in your cozy-looking scarf.
    Making candles sounds like a fun project. I love burning them but mine are all packed away until I get my butt back out of my parents' house. Someday...
