Seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time was overwhelming. It stayed overwhelming for the two days we were there. Our photos really don't convey what it's like. It's just so - big and unique. The Grand Canyon National Park was crowded with people from all over the world, speaking in different languages. It was an incredible experience that made us feel like international travelers.

Early morning and late evening were the best times to be out and about - with cooler temperatures and thinner crows. But it was beautiful all times of the day. Both evenings we were there were interrupted by thunderstorms. It was interesting to see the rain coming from far off.

My cotton blouse is from Novica. It was the perfect thing to wear at the Grand Canyon - in fact, I wore it both days we were there. One absolute necessity was a backpack large enough to tote lots of water. I brought along my modified Swedish rucksack and it was great for storing water, sunscreen and cameras. Funny story: I sewed a huge plaid patch over the flap because the rucksack had previously been a prop in a play and had "US MAIL" written on it. We didn't go on any long hikes or particularly long walks, but you can really feel the heat and altitude (about 6,800 ft) at the South Rim, making short walks seem much longer. One of my favorite things about Grand Canyon National Park is that the air smells like pine. It's wonderful!

  1. These are such beautiful photos! I've never been to the Grand Canyon but I definitely hope to at some point, members of my family have been and told me how awe-inspiring it is.

  2. Yeah- I always feel like it is difficult to capture the sheer scope and size of things on film sometimes. Glad you had fun at the Grand Canyon- looks like gorgeous shots!
