I have a soft spot for vintage CorningWare. Every now and then on my thrifting adventures I spot something with the "Butterfly Gold" pattern. I picked up a couple of saucers at 25 cents a piece to go with my Pyrex tea cups. It's such a cheerful 70s pattern.

Of course, the real butterfly gold is outside. I was lucky enough to get close to this Great spangled fritillary (first) and Eastern tiger swallowtail (second). They're just crazy about the lovely purple milkweed.

These sunflowers are grown in a local garden. I like to stop by and admire it every now and then - especially since I don't garden myself. I'm certainly impressed people who do. A few hardy houseplants are about all I can handle, so I'm glad there are people in this world who grow stunning sunflowers like these.

  1. I've always thought of August as golden (wheat) or pale green (the month's gem is Peridot,. Which, you know, isn't really all that pretty but...)
