1. Foxes, 1913
2. The Red Deer, 1912
3. The Enchanted Mill, 1913
4. Deer in a Monastary Garden, 1912
5. Deer in the Forest, 1914
6. Sleeping Deer, 1913
7. Crouching Deer, 1911
8. Deer in the Forest II, 1912
If I could rank my favorite paintings, the first might be Foxes and the second might be Deer in the Woods II by German Expressionist Franz Marc. Animals were a favorite subject of Franz Marc. I especially like his paintings of deer. There is so much emotion and movement in his paitnings, it's almost overwhelming. At the same time, the bold primary colors always lift my spirits.
Tragically, like fellow artist August Macke, Franz Marc died young in WWI. I often wonder what he would have painted had his life been longer.
