Steven and I had a fantastic time with our Scooby Doo-themed costumes this Halloween. We love the classic Scooby Doo, Where Are You! cartoons so dressing up as these teen detectives (or meddling kids) was an obvious choice for us.

Although he strongly resembles Fred, Steven wanted to be Shaggy (because if you're Fred all year 'round, you want to be Shaggy on Halloween)! His costume was easy to put together - I distressed an old green t-shirt and dyed a pair of his old khakis brown. I put a triangle insert into the pants to create bell-bottoms. I couldn't get matching brown fabric, but Steven liked the darker inserts - calling them "Shaggy-like."

My Daphne costume was mostly assembled from thrift store items. I found a deep violet sweater dress and added lavender trim sourced from second-hand clothes. The shoes were an old pair of canvas dance shoes I owned, painted lavender to match the trim. The red wig was purchased on Ebay years ago for another project I didn't finish, so it was fun to finally get to wear it with this costume. I used blue Rit dye to turn a vintage yellow scarf green.

A good costume calls for good props, so we gathered a magnifying glass, a vintage-style flashlight, and I made a box of Scooby Snacks (which was useful for carrying candy)!

I hope you all had a groovy and safe Halloween!
