Things have been much slower on this blog than I would like because of PC trouble. It looks like my laptop has a failing hard drive. I think things will be fixed soon, and Steven is kindly sharing his laptop in the meantime.
How cute is this chubby dove? I set out a terracotta dish of seed and next time I looked out the window this fluffy bird was using it as a roost.
I recently sourced some lovely purple paisley silk from a large thrift-store dress. I've been wanting to make a mod mod mini skirt for some time with Simplicity 7218, but I started to doubt that silk would be suitable for this pattern. I've set the project aside for now, but do any sewers want to chime in with advice? Could I use a light silk or would it be better to stick with a more durable material?

Oh no! I'm very sorry to hear that your computer may be on its last legs. Having recently experienced a computer giving up the ghost far too soon, the memory of suddenly being computer-less is bracingly fresh in my mind and I promise, you have my total sympathy and understanding.
