I wore an outfit almost identical to this one on our recent visit to the Biltmore Estate. This light wool-blend shift dress is perfect for March. I usually wear it with turtlenecks and today I'm paring it with a lace mock turtleneck I bought at Modcloth ages ago. This top has been a great layering piece over the years, but I hadn't worn it for a long time. Even though it's been visible, sitting in my small closet, I only recently "rediscovered" it and worked it into a couple of outfits. It's equally matched with torn denim or preppy gray shift dresses - any outfit that needs a touch of lace.
My thrifted backpack is probably the most practical bag I own, despite the dated side pockets that were made for flip phones - or cell phones with buttons? Or pagers? (I'm not sure. I usually just load up the side pockets with chap sticks). The bag is practical because it fits my camera and lens, phone, wallet, and I can wear it and forget about fiddling with purse straps when I'm out and about. Also - unlike some backpack bags - the straps are comfortable and don't dig into my shoulders.
Incidentally, I've been enjoying my favorite tea - Darjeeling - which was a special Christmas present. I've almost finished it and I'll be so sad when it's gone. Do you have a favorite tea, or is coffee more of your thing?
dress // backpack bag // boots: thrifted
lace top: modcloth (old)
tassel necklace: vintage
mod teacup and saucer: thrifted-vintage johnson bros. "posy"
The reference to flip phone sized pockets made me smile and go skipping down the path to nostalgia. How quickly technology dates us, and some of our fashions, now. It's a great bag - so classic and versatile looking. I've often said to Tony that if I ever get a leather or pleather backpack, I want it to look a great deal like the style you're sporting here (as I think I could weave such into the context of a 40s or 50s outdoors or collegiate look).
ReplyDeleteMany hugs & happy weekend wishes,

Funny thing is, I just had a flip phone until recently. :-D
DeleteOoh, yes! A backpack bag would be neat in one of your outfits. Like a vintage scouting look?
Many thanks!
Wauw love your lace top with that dress!
ReplyDeleteAnd your thrifted backpack is so nice too!

Thank you so much, Monique! <3
DeleteI like this outfit. Simple colors but with a lot of interest in the textures. And, I'm drinking tea as I type this! My current favorite is this locally blended Scottish Breakfast tea with a dash of cream, but I also really like a Lavender Early Grey and a Peach White tea too...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kristian. :-)
DeleteOh wow, all three sound really delicious. In college my housemates bought me some lavender Earl Gray tea for my birthday, and I really enjoyed it. Now that you've mentioned it, it makes me want to track some down today.
Hope you're having a nice evening!
What a lovely combination of textures! I really like the nubby wool with the lace, it's so tactile. And backpacks really are the best, even if you've moved past the flip phone stage. :P
ReplyDeleteZella Maybe
Haha, true. More room for chap sticks, a compact, some tissues... :-)
DeleteI just found your blog and have looked back through some of your pages. Your photos are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love tea and I did have a favourite: a lavender black tea blend I got while visiting a lavender farm in England last year. I was so sad when it ran out, and especially because I would have to go all the way back to that farm to get it again as they blended it themselves!

Thank you so much, Nicole. I'm glad you stopped by to visit.
DeleteWow - what a special tea. It sounds amazing. Lavender is such a relaxing fragrance and goes so well with tea. Too bag it's so remote!
Lovely outfit; I love when something is rediscovered. It feels like getting something new, but without paying a dime! The textures work so well together too. :) Regarding tea, my all time favorite tea comes from a local place here call Montea. It's called Snowflake, they have it at Christmas, and it's the most delightful floral almondy flavor. Heaven in a mug!
