Water Lilies and Mountain Laurel

We had the greatest time weekend before last at our favorite mountain lake. So many things were blooming - pink rhododendron, pale mountain laurel, and (to our delight) loads of water lilies. Photography has been a great excuse to get to know these blossoms up-close. It's silly, but sometimes I feel like I'm invading their privacy.

Here's a photo of the water lilies on the same lake in 1947. You can also spot lily pads in the background of this 1950s photo.

  1. Oh my goodness, so so beautiful. I know what you mean about invading their privacy, sometimes, it feels more respectful to just watch and study them instead. :)

    1. Thanks for being the very first commenter on this blog, Clara! And yes! I'm glad you know what I mean. Although there's so much detail one misses out on from five feet away. :-)

    1. Thank you, Kristian! That means a lot to me.

I'm glad you liked the last post. I'm so in love with those 17th century still lifes that I almost want to do another post of them. :-)

    1. Oh, that's a shame! But I understand why. One of the most tedious road trips I ever went on was across the tops of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. So long!
