Around the Clubhouse: Rhododendron and Ms Bobbie

June is such a great month for wildflowers. On a recent hike I especially enjoyed the pale pink rhododendron, with their freckled upper petals.

I recently found a local hole-in-the-wall thrift shop that has an assortment of 60s and 70s pieces. It was so exciting to find because the local chain thrift stores so rarely have vintage. This pansy-print collar blouse is one of my recent acquisitions. It was only a dollar! It's in perfect condition, but the best part is the fit. The arms are long enough, the arm-holes small enough, and - amazingly - the spaces between the buttons don't gape at the chest. I love the brand name too: Ms Bobbie. "Ms" is my preferred honorific - if you must use one in front of my name. I first became aware of "Ms" as a child while reading The Magic School Bus. Ms. Frizzle made it automatically cool.

Steven and I took a big road trip last year, so it's not likely we'll do a lot of traveling this summer. We did get the chance to visit King's Dominion theme park in VA last week with my sister Corrie and my life-long friend Maryanna. Corrie had found herself with some free tickets and invited us to join her. We all had a great time. Nothing pictured, because I decided to leave my camera at home. I also forgot to bring my phone. And a change of dry shorts. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The whole trip worked out well because none of us are thrill-seekers. Maryanna and I enjoyed some mid-level rides like the log flume and Avalanche (a bobsled roller-coaster built in the 80s) while my sister and husband sat back and watched the thrill rides.

Meanwhile, my doughnut appreciation continues...

  1. Ms. Frizzle DID make "Ms." cool. Yes, indeed.

I need to get out and inspect the wildflowers here too. I think a good hike is in order this weekend.

  2. Aww, I love Ms. Frizzle, too. From her science smarts to her quick thinking whits to her fab wardrobe - and of course her awesome red hair - she was definitely an inspiration to when I was growing up.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend, sweet dear,
    ♥ Jessica

    1. Thank you, Jessica. I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned her style, but I've seen a lot of lovely bloggers embracing full skirts and novelty prints just like the charming Ms. Frizzle.

  4. Small independent thrift stores are the best- and the prices can't be beat! We have one in our town run by volunteer grandmas, and it is the best kind where you have to dig for the good stuff :) That shirt is pretty great, and I love your flower photos- gorgeous!
