Wildflowers in August
Mountain viewEastern Swallowtail butterfly, femaleThe butterfly in the first photo is a Great Spangled Fritillary, and the one in the photo directly above is an Eastern Swallowtail. So far, I haven't spotted nearly as many butterflies as I did last August, but I'm very glad to have seen these. I think the sunny goldenrod and the other yellow wildflowers of August and September really cheer up a landscape. Our wonderful five-mile hike yesterday was a reminder of how beautiful late summer can be.

I hope you all have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

  1. Butterflies are so beautiful to photograph, if you can get them to stay still! I really enjoy watching the transition from summer to autumn, it's one of my favourite times of the year.

    1. Hehe, there were definitely a few that got away! I may be just imagining it, but those Swallowtails seem a little less timid than some of the others.

  3. I love seeing butterflies. It's kind of a rare thing to see when you love in downtown, but nevertheless just as exciting! I would have loved to hike there; everything looks so colorful and peaceful.<3

    1. Thanks so much Jamie! This year, I resolved to at least *try* to look up the plants or butterflies I shoot. It's not always easy to identify them, but it's been very rewarding to learn the names of a few species. It makes me more aware of living things when I'm outdoors. :-)

  5. I love all the butterfly pictures you've had on your blog recently--I love butterflies! In Florida I went to the most beautiful butterfly garden and just sat there for hours!
